There are only 12 fixtures left to be played this season, with just six of those games be played at Underhill, but how many more times will we be fortunate to see Edgar Davids wearing the black and amber?

His performance last night was surely his best in Barnet colours and he may or may not have capped off the evening with his first goal for the club.

As well as the obvious benefit of having the Head Coach that much nearer to the players he is coaxing throughout the game – no longer can a player furthest from the technical area claim he didn’t hear the instruction – it can be truly said that he led by example.

You wouldn’t like to play against him in midfield.  He will be snarling at your feet, disputing possession and then his brain is working quicker than yours, he will be moving before your thought process has got into gear, and he can envisage and execute passes that you will never think of.

And that is why he was once a world-class player and we are lucky to see a player of such quality performing at Underhill.

He didn’t have a pre-season to build up his fitness levels. His first game for the Bees came in mid-October and he literally hit the ground running. But now with nearly 20 games to his credit last night his batteries looked fully charged. He harried and chased all over the pitch like a young colt.

It would be fitting if it is the case that his was the last touch before the ball crossed the line; you could then say in every sense that this was the complete performance from a midfielder.
