Programme editor David Bloomfield previews this weekend’s game against Fleetwood Town by praising the impact of a holding midfielder, and it is not the one you may have expected it to be.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the great victory at Rotherham United last week was the performance of Curtis Weston as the holding midfielder. It was surely his best display to date in a Barnet shirt.
He looked eager to get on the ball and make good use of it and he broke up numerous Rotherham attacks with well-timed interceptions or tackles.
It was a display that showed why clubs such as Leeds United and Millwall have been happy to have him on their books.
Perhaps issues with a thigh injury prevented us from seeing him play to this sort of level in the early stages of the season but now he seems rejuvenated in this new position.
He has only had a handful of games in this role, but if his performance at the New York stadium is any guide it seems a natural fit and of course there is someone playing alongside him in midfield that has more than a little experience of playing in this position at the very highest level.
Karl Bates and David are back as commentator and summariser respectively for the visit of Fleetwood Town to Underhill and of course if you are unable to make it to the game then the BarnetPlayer service will be offering full-match commentary.
