Bees produce excellent comeback in friendly

A Barnet XI came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with a Luton Town team in a development friendly at Kenilworth Road yesterday.

Barnet took a squad made up of a mixture of first team and Youth Team players for the game, who showed admirable character against the League Two club during a resurgent second half performance.

Luton fielded a strong and physical side that featured a number of first team squad members.

It was the hosts who started the stronger of the two teams and they took an early lead when Kynan Isaac headed into the net after Ross Lafayette had flicked a long thrown into his path at the back post.

The Hatters doubled their advantage before half-time through another set piece, after slack marking allowed Alex Lacey the time and space in the penalty area to plant a header past Sam Cowler in goal follow.

Barnet made changes both at half-time and throughout the second half, and following a stirring team talk from Martin Allen it was the visitors who dominated the second half, creating numerous chances.

They pulled a goal back around the hour mark when Matt Stevens, prolific for the Youth Team already this season, headed the rebound into the far corner after the goalkeeper had only been able to parry his initial effort.

With quarter of an hour remaining Luisma Villa equalised with a stunning goal, executing a perfect scissor kick into the far corner following a cross from the right by substitute Keanu Marsh-Brown.

The Spaniard nearly won the game for the Bees in the dying moments with a free-kick that flew narrowly wide, but the squad had to settle for a draw at the end of a useful run-out.

Barnet XI: Sam Cowler; Keir Dickson, Joe Gater (Charlie Kennedy), Harry Taylor, Hakim Odoffin; Adam Mekki (Elliott Harris), Luisma Villa, Nana Emmanuel (Jack Taylor), Jon Nurse (Matt Stevens); George Sykes (Keanu Marsh-Brown), Jamal Lowe.
