Bees complete the signing of Josh Doherty!

Barnet Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Josh Doherty. The former Colchester United and Crawley Town man joins on an initial one year deal.

The left-back, who can also play higher up the pitch in midfield, began his career at Watford as an academy graduate, before representing Leyton Orient, Ards and Altrincham.

It was at Crawley Town where the Northan Irishman made his name, joining the Club in 2017 where he spent four years until departing The Red Devils in the summer. During his time at the League Two Club, he made 94 appearances in all competitions and brings a good amount of experience to Harry Kewell’s side, who he previously played under in 2018.

During the second half of last season, the 25-year-old spent time out on loan at Colchester United helping the U’s away from the bottom two.

The full-back will hope to use this experience ahead of the new National League Season and becomes the Bees seventh new addition of the summer, with the squad really starting to take shape ahead of pre-season next week.

Doherty has also achieved accolades at international level too and has represented Northern Ireland at U18, U19 and U21 levels, making 20 appearances at youth level.

The full-back was thrilled to get his deal over the line and is looking forward to the hard work getting underway next week, he said:

“I am delighted to be here, I am sure it’s going to be a tough pre-season, they are always hard but knowing the gaffer, it’ll be a good one. I want to win, I have a winning mentality and I want to win something, that is something I have always wanted to do that in my career and I hope to do that here.

“I wouldn’t have joined the Club if there wasn’t the ambition to challenge at the top end of the league and that has to be our aim. From the first day we start training that has to be the focus and the mindset, so I’m looking forward to getting started.”

We’re delighted to have secured Josh’s services for the upcoming campaign and look forward to seeing him get started when pre-season gets underway next week. The deal is subject to the usual regulatory processes.

Welcome to the Club, Josh!Â
