Could the 1-0 game up at Hyde prove to be a defining moment of the season? In the Premiership sometimes journalists talk about the test sides face on a Winter’s day in Stoke. Perhaps a December day in Hyde in front of less than 500 fans is the Skrill Premier equivalent.Â
Hyde had not played for a couple of weeks so may have come to the game fresher and no doubt desperate to record their first league win of the season. In truth, despite the Tigers’ extra week of rest, Barnet were pretty dominant throughout. We could have won by a bigger margin but for some smart goalkeeping and the linesman’s flag. The down side for the Bees was Keanu Marsh-Brown’s booking, which means he is suspended for the big game against Luton on Boxing Day.
On the plus side Jon Nurse, not involved much in the early part of the campaign, netted his second winner in as many league games to fire the Bees into the play off places for Christmas. Even a couple of canceled trains in Greater Manchester followed by a diversion through Birmingham due to a felled tree on the way back took nothing away from a very satisfactory away day. Come Boxing Day Nurse will be looking to make it a hat trick of goalscoring games – another 1-0 win would do just fine thanks!
Of course the Boxing Day game in question is the game of the day in the Skrill Premier as 2nd take on 5th in round one of Barnet vs Luton. The second round, as it were, takes place less than a week later at Kenilworth Road on New Year’s Day. These are the games all players should be looking forward to and Barnet could even climb as high as third if results go their way. And with Jake Hyde and Dani Lopez returning from injuries at the weekend and Nurse suddenly in amongst the goals as well, it could be a very Merry Christmas for all Barnet fans at The Hive on Boxing Day. Given the crowd expected the club advise traveling to The Hive as early as you can. Hope to see you in the bar for a pre-match pint then!
