From 5 goal thrillers to multimillion pound transfer sagas, it has been an interesting week in the footballing world.  

 

The game against Hyde on Saturday was quite a strange game. Without getting out of second gear, the Bees found themselves 2-0 up at the interval.  

 

An excellent finish from the ever improving Keanu Marsh-Brown put Barnet 1-0 up and the Bees were firmly in the driving seat when the ball broke loose to Mark Byrne to fire home following excellent work on the right from Andy Yiadom and KMB.  

 

I certainly went into half-time thinking that there was only one winner here but perhaps Barnet took their foot off the gas a bit too!

 

In the second half Hyde, sadly the Greater Manchester club rather than the Skrill Premier’s top scorer, smashed in a couple of wonder goals. Both strikes were from some considerable distance and Liam Tomsett will do well to score two better goals this season.  

 

Inexplicably the Bees found themselves level when the game should have been out of sight.  

 

Would this be another "Nuneaton", a game where Barnet really should have made their superiority count but ultimately only claimed a point for their efforts? Harry Crawford decided not, scoring his first goal of the season to give the Bees a 3-2 victory.  

 

As the season goes on, Barnet must try to maintain consistent performances for the whole 90 minutes and take their chances when enjoying the better of the play. 

 

After Saturday came the ludicrous frenetic activity of the last day of the transfer window.  

 

Thankfully Barnet did their deals early and I think you’ll agree that all of our new signings have settled in really well.  

 

But the Premiership big boys were scrambling around for last minute deals that appeared the very antonym of good value.  

 

Mesut Ozil for 50 million Euros and Gareth Bale for 100 million Euros saw Monopoly money thrown around in desperation for a headline.  

 

In the Conference, the big transfer was Wrexham striker Bradley Reid moving to Wolves for £200,000.  

 

No doubt of more relevance at this level will be the window for loan signings reopening on 10 September.  

 

Only time will tell whether Edgar Davids chooses to add any loan players to the squad after next week, but as things stand the Bees squad looks pretty solid.   

 

Onwards, and undefeated, then to Halifax this Saturday – hope to see you at The Shay!
