BARNET BLOG #10

Another week, another 4 points, and this blog comes to you with the Bees at the top of the Skrill Premier!

4th September 2009 was the last time that Barnet topped the table, then of course in League Two. Almost 4 years on, Barnet fans will have The Hive rocking to chants of "We are top of the league" come the game against Hyde on Saturday.

Of course being top after only 5 games means little and we will know a bit more about how the Bees season is developing after 10 games or so, but long suffering Bees fans should be allowed to enjoy their time at the summit of the division.

The result that brought the Bees to the top was our second away win of the season, this time a handsome 3-0 victory against Braintree.

A couple of ill-advised fouls by the Iron left the Essex boys with 9 men with over an hour to play.

The Only Way Was Barnet as the Bees scored 3 second half goals and, in truth, could have had more with Jake Hyde missing a penalty in the first half and some other near misses.  Keanu Marsh-Brown and Jake Hyde scored either side of Mark Byrne’s 18 yard effort.

Hyde and Marsh-Brown were handsomely rewarded for their Essex exertions when Paul Fairclough announced that the Barnet duo would join up with his England C squad to play a Latvian Under 23 side in September.

Apparently up to 20 adventurous Bees will make the journey to little known Jelgava – pray tell which pie shop Reckless’ Latvian spies will recommend for that away day!

Away from the diversion of international football that every so often distracts from the bread and butter of the Skrill Premier, there is a rather important home game to be played at The Hive against Hyde on Saturday.

Let’s hope Barnet’s top goalscorer continues his form against the team from Greater Manchester, if only to make headline writing as easy as possible for next week’s blog.

Why not get down to the Hive and support the Bees this Saturday?  We are top of the league you know…
