ALDERSHOT CALL THE SHOTS

Barnet are still looking for their first victory of the season after this 1-0 defeat at the hands of Aldershot Town, who themselves were on a five-match winless run, the goal coming midway through the second half.

Head Coach Mark Robson had kept faith with the same starting XI who had put in a decent shift in the 1st half at Bradford City at the weekend.

The game was low on spectacle and it increasingly looked a case of the first side to score would go onto win the match.

The Bees were fortunate however not to go a goal behind early on when Ricky Holmes cleared a goal-bound effort from a corner as the home side got into their stride quicker than the Bees.

As at Bradford, Barnet gradually got themselves into the game and the first-half was a very even affair; although neither side was doing enough to suggest that they were about to forge a lead.

Adam Mekki was a threat down the Aldershot right with his ability to go on the outside the full-back or cut inside to create danger down the middle.

Midway through the half Jon Nurse was nicely set up by an advancing Jordan Brown and a goal was a possibility, but his drilled effort was kept out by Jamie Young in the Shots’ goal.

John Oster then cut in from the left and although his shot was well struck it flew over the bar.

Sonny Bradley then had a headed effort for the home side flash narrowly wide just before the half-time whistle.

With Barry Fuller off with a head injury, that required stitches, and Nurse sidelined with a back muscle spasm, the second half started with substitute George Sykes being positioned as the furthest man forward, Clovis Kamdjo moved to right-back with Ahmed Abdulla coming off the bench to play in central midfield.

The second-half was no more eventful, with the most notable exception being the winning Aldershot goal.

From an attack down their right the Shots took the lead in the 67th minute. The ball was played into the middle where Craig Reid reacted first and hit the ball crisply past Graham Stack. 

From that point on Aldershot were able to keep anything the Bees could offer at bay as Barnet rarely gave the home defence cause for concern, although Sykes did manage a header on target when Curtis Weston delivered a good cross from the right.

117 loyal Barnet fans had made the journey.

The Bees are at home this Saturday when Underhill hosts Rotherham United.
