Hartlepool United held the Bees to a goalless draw in the northeast with Barnet picking up four points in four days with two long away trips in the Vanarama National League.
Â
The Bees started with most of the possession, winning a couple of set pieces inside the Hartlepool half, none which forced Brad Young into a save of note.
Â
Nick Hayes was called into action for the first time when Joe Grey played in a low-cross into the box but there was Hayes to collect.
Â
Ryan Glover tried an audacious effort on the 20th minute mark when he went for goal from range, but his shot flew high over the bar.
Â
Bailey Hobson with some clever footwork played the ball through to Rhys Browne who took the shot on from inside the box, but it rolled wide of the right-hand post.
Â
Danny Collinge found himself in a shooting position in the 32nd minute when he went for goal from the edge of the box, but his shot went wide of the mark.
Â
Hobson was next to have a go at goal for the Bees, his shot from the edge rolled wide of Young’s right-hand post.
Â
Half Time 0-0
Â
The first chance of the second half fell to Myles Kenlock when he received the ball from a short corner before shooting at goal from close range, but Young made a smart stop to deny Barnet.
Â
With 20 minutes to go Hartlepool turned to former Brighton and Luton winger Kazenga LuaLua to look for inspiration for what had been a difficult performance in attack for the hosts.
Â
In a half of very few chances set pieces were looking like they could be crucial. A Hartigan corner just evaded Mark Shelton at the back post as the Pools breathed a sigh of relief.
Â
Substitute Anthony Mancini was looking to give a killer blow to the Bees when his advancing run into the box gave him room to shoot but it went high over the bar.
Â
The Bees thought they had the opener when a Hartigan corner was headed on by Oluwo and into the back of the net, but the referee blew for an alleged foul with the scores remaining level.
Â
With minutes to go the game sprung into life, Tavares with a point-blank range header was some how denied by Brad Young on the goal line.
Â
It finished goalless with the Bees likely to be feeling hard done by as York re-inherit the top spot in the National League with the Bees now in second.
