The Club have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of former Wealdstone and Chelsea FC ‘keeper, Jake Askew.
Â
Askew spent last season at Wealdstone and made eight appearances during his time at Grovesnor Vale, his first real taste of senior football at the young age of 19. The shot-stopper is tipped to have a big future in the game and now makes the move to The Hive London looking to build on his experience so far.Â
Â
Previous to his time at the Stones, Askew came through Chelsea’s youth system and was their under-18s number one during his last season at the Blues. The ‘keeper joined the Premier League side at the age of nine and regularly featured in the UEFA Youth League, PL2 and FA Youth Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.Â
Â
His most impressive campaign came in the disrupted 2019/20 season as he became the Under-18s number one, keeping 10 clean sheets in 19 appearances, as well as playing an instrumental role in the Blues impressive FA Youth Cup run. Before that season Askew made his European debut, keeping a clean sheet in a UEFA Youth League clash with Elfsborg.Â
Â
Speaking on his arrival at The Hive London, Askew spoke on his excitement on joining the Club, he said:
“I am delighted to be here, it’s a big Club with great facilities, I just can’t wait to get going! It’s a Club that could be playing higher up and I am here to hopefully help them get back to where they belong.
“I can’t wait for pre-season, it’s going to be really good, we’ve got a lot of tough fixtures to get us prepared for what is going to be a tough season. I am sure we’ll be ready to go and pick up some wins to get us high up in the league.“
We’re delighted to welcome Jake to the Club and he’ll kick off pre-season with his new teammates early next week. The deal is subject to the usual regulatory procedures.Â
