On the result
We just had a chat in there after the game, we’re at the business end of the season where three points is the most important thing. I think we’re going to play better; I don’t dispute that. Again, we’ve had to scrap it out but those type of victories are going to be just as important as the pretty ones where we play nice football, so that’s where we are right now in the season.
Credit to the boys, I thought their work ethic and togetherness was brilliant out there today and we tried to pass it, in all fairness on a difficult pitch. It’s gone from boggy to bobbly and lively today. I’ve got to be honest although I thought the play between the two boxes was fairly even, I thought we were the ones who looked most likely to score the goals.
I remember at 1-0, Simeon had an opportunity where 2-0 might have just shut the game off. At 1-0, even against ten men it isn’t always easy and it’s a poor goal from us to concede, a quick throw-in and we didn’t stop the cross and obviously Sweeney puts it in. But we’ve gone on and won the game and that’s the most pleasing part about today.
On Paul McCallum’s debut
Yeah, I planned all that! It’s nice that he scored, its what he does. His statistics up until yesterday over the last two seasons I think were 39 in 59 so he certainly knows how to score goals. I think the other things I liked about his play today were his assist as well. It was a wonderful technique, I think it was a sliding half volley into Simeon’s path which is a great ball in and then just the fact he’s a big beast up there that centre-halves don’t enjoy playing against.
He’s physical, he’s aggressive and he’s good in the air. That’s all on the back of coming down yesterday, not training with the lads. He first met them in the changing room before the game so it’s a perfect start for him.
On going 11 games unbeaten
There is no doubt that that’s a pleasing stat. We just need to keep it going and not get carried away. It’s just one game, three points and it’s another good day for us. We’ve got to rest up because we have some Saturday’s and Tuesdays coming up. It’s just another little step in the right direction.
