The Bees returned to pre-season training on Thursday and met new manager Peter Beadle for the first time following his arrival on Monday.
The returning squad have been put through their paces ahead of the new Vanarama National League season which gets underway in the first weekend of October.
We caught up with manager Peter Beadle to discuss the following topics of interest to Bees fans:
Josh Walker’s absence from the first two sessions
PB: “Josh is away on holiday, so has missed the first two sessions which has been unfortunate. He’ll be back on Monday, I am looking forward to seeing him on Monday and Tuesday when he’s back with us.”
Ephron Mason Clark
PB: “Ephron has got a slight injury so we are just going to wait and see how that settles down. I think it was something that he picked up in the play-off games from speaking to him. I think he may have picked up in the first game actually and played with it in the second one, which has probably made it a little bit worse. Just as a precaution he is going to see someone on Tuesday, so we will know more on Tuesday, hopefully it won’t be too long.”
On our return to training
“They’ve come back in good shape, most importantly their attitude has been spot on so that’s been good. They have had their weight and body fats done, as well as all the testing done.
“They have had their first couple of days back on the grass and other than a few being a bit stiff and tight this morning, they have all been back out there this morning. They have all got through it really well.”
On the returning squad as a whole
“I’d like to think they have come back hungrier to do well again next year. We know the team were 11th when we finished the game but with the Points Per Game we moved up into the play-offs which was great. The boys have experienced that now and we’ve spoken about it already, we’re all hungry to match the same again for next season. Hopefully, they’ll come back hungrier than ever, maybe even more so than last year.”
On the fans
“It’s been amazing, the response I have had so far from both Barnet fans and fans from around the country as well has been great. As I said before, my teams have always been entertaining, I’d just love for the whole community to get behind our team.
“Hopefully we can put a team out there to make them all proud. At the end of the day, they want entertainment, they want to see good football, lots of goalmouth action and most importantly lots of three points for us!”
We’d also like to cover the following subjects of note:
Trialists and player recruitment
It is inevitable that over the coming days, manager Peter Beadle will have some trialists involved in training as we look to build a squad for the 2020/21 campaign. Out of respect for the privacy for our recruitment business and the player’s involved, we won’t post details of who is on trial with us, but as soon as any contract is finalised we will announce via the usual channels.
Peter has worked very hard since taking the reigns to create a shortlist of player targets for the new campaign and we will keep fans informed with our recruitment activity over the coming days/weeks.
Backroom Staff
More details regarding Beadle’s staffing team will be revealed in due course.
Pre-Season friendlies
So far two pre-season friendlies have been scheduled as we look to get minutes in the tank ahead of the new Vanarama National League season. The two games in question are with Step 2 (National League South) sides and thus behind closed doors. Where possible we will look to announce details of matches, but in some instances, the opposition Club doesn’t want to make the fixture public knowledge.
Where possible we will provide live commentary of matches but at a minimum, we will provide Bees fans with a match report and a summary of events from games that aren’t publicly announced before they take place. Should we schedule any games away to Step 3 sides or lower we will announce any subsequent ticket details.
