Reynolds – “The atmosphere amongst the boys is really good”

Bees captain Callum Reynolds believes that the spirit and togetherness of the squad will be vital for the Club heading into the 2019/20 season. Reynolds and his fellow players reported back for pre-season training last Wednesday (June 26) and now are entering their first full week of training.

The Bees skipper feels that the first week back has been tough but very successful.

“It’s been a good start, we have been working really hard. The atmosphere amongst the boys is really good, we had three hard sessions and we are right back at it again this week”

“Obviously Darren (Currie) came in during last season, so it is nice to start with some continuity in terms of staff and players”

The players were welcomed back to training by a summer heatwave and Reynolds explained how that has affected the early stages of pre-season.

“The weather definitely creates extra physical and mental toughness to training. I have been going home with a burnt face, I think I should probably start wearing suncream! But this is British summertime so we should enjoy the weather while it’s here!”

Last week saw new signing Scott Loach join up with the squad and the captain has enjoyed welcoming the Bees new ‘keeper to the squad.

“So far what I have seen he has been really good, his distribution is excellent. He is a top goalkeeper, you can see that from where he has played in the past.”

“We’re getting to know him off the pitch as well and he is a top addition to the team”

The atmosphere on the training ground has been one of focus but more crucially the spirt amongst the entire squad has been excellent. Reynold’s highlighted how a good atmosphere at the club will affect results on the pitch.

“You can see in every successful team, the togetherness and team spirit can win you matches, particularly if you are not at your best.”

“When you know you have got each other’s back’s on the pitch it can be that extra little boost to get a result.”

After a slow start to life in the National League last season, the skipper is demanding that he and his side make a fast start this time out.

“We have to start the season well, we didn’t win in our first five games last year, which isn’t good enough whatever level you are playing at”

“This is a difficult league, so we will get a good pre-season behind us and hopefully start on the front foot.”
