Simeon Akinola netted from the spot for the second time this season six minutes before the break, but Harry Beautyman was on hand to snatch an equaliser in the second period.

After the match, the boss expressed his disappointment with the result:

“I didn’t really want to settle for a point if I’m honest, the game should have be over. (We had) two or three unbelievable chances at the start of the second half that if we go two up, the game’s over.

“They wouldn’t have got the ball off us, we’d have moved it around and created more chances. We then went on to create other chances so it’s just a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal that has cost us two points.

“It’s a bad goal to concede, we didn’t react to a quick throw, the boy was only ever going to lump it into the box, we lose the first header and we track the runner.

“From there, I thought they were a potential threat at set pieces but other than that I didn’t think they were really hurting us but on a positive, there were some good play.”

Harry Taylor put in another good performance and the boss was quick to dish out praise for the 22-year-old:

“Harry Taylor dropping in and doing a job at centre-half was incredible, outstanding performance.

“I could play Harry in goal, up front, wherever I played him, he’s always going to be committed to the cause so credit Harry for that.

“I thought there were some really good performances out there but along with myself, I’ve got a changing room full of disappointed people that we’ve dropped two points.”

Taylor wasn’t the only one who caught Currie’s eye as the boss also highlighted how well James Dunne and Medy Elito played too:

“I think the way we moved the ball around with confidence and Dunney and Medy in midfield were handling the ball brilliant and both put in a really good performance but 2-0 up, it’s too big of a mountain for them to climb but at 1-0 there’s always that chance.”

Currie went on to admit that improvement is needed in front of goal and also acknowledged the brilliant away support:

“We’ve got to keep learning, the boys know my feelings, they’ve got to be ruthless in front of goal.

“We’ve created two or three really good opportunities on Saturday and only won by the one goal and another two or three really good opportunities today.

“You always give the opposition a chance at 1-0. 2-0 is a different story but I’m gutted. The fans travelled in numbers, they got right behind the boys.

“I’m gutted for them, I’m gutted for us and I’m gutted for the players because they’ve worked really hard and I’m just disappointed because we should be sitting on six points now and six points in front of half a dozen teams in the league already.”
