The hosts went behind twice but goals from Jack Taylor and Simeon Akinola sealed a draw.

Currie praised his side for levelling the scores on two occasions but gave a brutally honest assessment of the overall performance.

“Our general play was OK, we had enough ball and we had enough attacking opportunities but we’re just lacking that firepower which is really frustrating.

“It was great character to come from behind. The first goal was a wonderful goal by Jack Taylor and I thought he was outstanding today but our front three weren’t good enough in the last 15-20 minutes which is why they probably looked the most likely.

“The ball kept coming back off Jack, Ephron and Simeon. Not good enough. We couldn’t really build anything.

“We then became the counter attacking team and our pass selections and choices weren’t good enough.

“What we’ve had available, because of injuries, I suppose I’ll take the positive of Sparkes playing left-back and Harry Taylor, again, playing centre-half.

“I’ve got two defenders on the pitch. I’m always gutted when we don’t perform to our capabilities and we don’t take the three points.

“It’s two home games that I wanted to take four points but deep down I wanted six, so I’m gutted we’ve only taken one.”

However, the boss dished the praise for goalkeeper Scott Loach who made some crucial saves during the game and extended his desire to add a forward to his summer arrivals.

“Loach made a great save at the death. He’s been brilliant.

“I had a gut feeling about Loach that he would make us better, it was a no-brainer to me and it was the same with Dunne and I need that feeling again with a forward.

“I’ve been in discussion with people. We’re looking for the right type that’s going to make us better.

“I’ve been in for several but it hasn’t quite happened for whatever reason, but we continue to look because it’s the final piece that I believe will take us to the next level.”

Jack Taylor marked 100 games with a wondergoal and the midfielder was also subject to admiration from Currie after the game.

“I thought he was excellent. His passing was outstanding and his energy levels too.

“It was a wonderful goal, a great bit of skill. I thought he was a real threat for us but to play 100 games by the age of 21 is a credit to him.

“It just shows that over time he’s improving and getting better. He’s got a big future in front of him so credit to him.”
