The opposition
After a brilliant start to the season which saw the Cards top the table, they have stumbled of late, failing to win in their previous eight matches. Their last victory coming in August as they beat Torquay United at home, they will come to The Hive looking to recapture their form from the start of the season.
Just like the Bees the Cards have drawn on five occasions already this season, drawing 1-1 in four of those matches. They have lost on the road only twice this season, whilst the Bees have only won three of their eight matches at The Hive, therefore both will be desperate to take all three points when the ball gets rolling at 15:00.
Last season was one to remember for our visitors as they achieved promotion from National League South, through the play-offs, beating Welling United 1-0 in the final. They also enjoyed success in the FA Cup too, reaching the third round before being knocked out by eventual finalists on a historic day for everyone associated with Woking.
The gaffer – Alan Dowson
Alan Dowson took over as Woking manager in May 2018 following the Cards relegation from the National League. He has enjoyed great success in his short time with the club, as he guided them back to the Vanarama National League at the first time of asking, as his side went onto win the play-offs and get to the third round of the FA Cup.
Before he took the hot seat at Woking, Dowson enjoyed promotion from the Isthmian League with Hampton & Richmond Borough as they went up as champions. Two successful seasons followed, with back to back playoff campaigns, with both ending in heartbreak for the Beavers. A penalty shoot-out defeat to Braintree in the play-offs in the 2017/18 season was Dowson’s last before he moved to Woking.
Away from management, Dowson enjoyed playing for the likes of Darlington, Bradford, Millwall, and Fulham in an 18 year playing career. The Gateshead born defender went onto to play for his home town club towards the end of his career, as well as being player-manager Walton and Hersham. Dowson is one of the most respected managers in the non-league and will be hoping to create more history, by taking the Cards to the Football League.
One to watch – Jake Hyde
The Bee Army will need no introduction to Hyde as the striker played for us in the 2009-10 season. Hyde is currently our visitor’s top goalscorer with 7 goals already this season with a ratio of one goal every 133 minutes. The striker last netted in his side’s 2-2 draw with Ebbsfleet United last month.
