“As soon as they went down to 10 men that seemed to lift them and make it harder for us.
We found it difficult to break them down.”
The focus for Kevin this week has been on building his side back up and getting them to a place where recent frustrations are behind them.
“We’re trying to get a bit of buzz about them. It’s that stage of the season where they need a bit of rest, but it’s been difficult because results haven’t gone as we would have liked.”
“We’ve gone through the details of last weekends game and have got to keep them mentally focused. These late goals take a lot out of players. But they need to keep believing in what we’re doing.”
Kevin feels there are lots of positives to take from recent performances and has faith that it will come good for his side on Saturday against Cheltenham.
“Hopefully we can do something on Saturday.
The points total isn’t what we wanted, but performance wise it has been good barring patches of the Accrington and Notts County game.
Everybody knows we should have more points on the board, we’ll keep going.”
On injuries Kevin revealed a few first team members are close to a return.
“It’s really pleasing that a few lads are coming back.”
“Pearson is coming back in. Jack Taylor is lightly coming back. Jamie Stephens is lightly coming back in.”
“They’re big players for us. Big voices. Big characters in the dressing room.
Hopefully if we can get them back sooner rather then later, It’ll be like signing some new players for us.”
Looking ahead to Cheltenham, Kevin is after a positive attitude from his team and a fearless approach to winning.
“We want the sort of performances we had against Portsmouth and Cambridge. We want to be creating chances and keeping it tight at the back.”
“I know they’re down at the bottom of the league, but they’re fighting for their lives.
It’s going to be a very tough game. And a tight game.”
On taking over at Barnet late in the season, Kevin explained the challenges he’s faced and what he’s trying to achieve.
“I’ve got the principles of what I want to do and I’m going to be sticking by them.”
“We’re trying to get the ball down, trying to pass it, trying to be creative and pleasing on the eye.
But equally I know we need to win games as well.”
“In terms of getting to know the players, I’m really getting there.
I’m getting more of an understanding of who can come on and do what.
In terms of training load, what they can train and do their best at the weekend."
"All those things do take time and I feel like I’m getting there now.”
On the fans and the need for their support right to the end of the season, Kevin expressed his pride in everything to do with Barnet Football Club.
“Everybody here is working their utmost. I’m so proud to be the coach at Barnet. I’m working as hard as I possibly can to turn these performances into the points that we deserve.”
“Keep backing the lads and hopefully it will turn, and once we get that result we can go on a little run.”
