But the 27-year-old goalkeeper is yet to feature at EFL level – something he is determined to rectify following his move to The Hive from Macclesfield Town.
“I started out on YTS at Reading and Crystal Palace and after leaving there I went into non-league to be playing first-team football,” Ross told barnetfc.com.
“So I’ve just been waiting for that chance to get into the League – and now I’ve got to make sure I take it when it comes. I can’t wait to get started.
“As a goalkeeper, either you’re playing or you’re not and that’s a tough position to be in at times. But you’ve always got to back yourself and your ability to play.
“The gaffer’s said to me that it’s all about competition for places and it’s good to have that.
I’ve never really sat on the bench for long so I’m looking to put my own stamp down now.”
As well as doing the rounds at National League level with the likes of Cambridge United, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Eastbourne Borough, Ross also spent time training at Fulham.
He played for the Cottagers’ Under-23 side and worked alongside their senior keepers at the time, Maarten Stekelenburg and David Stockdale.
Last summer, Ross signed for Macclesfield and featured in their FA Cup run as the Silkmen triumphed 1-0 at Walsall and took Oxford United to a replay in the second round.
“Those were great games to be involved in, being on TV as well, and reaching Wembley in the FA Trophy final – although I didn’t play – also helped to make it a good season,” he recalled.
A return trip to Wembley with the Bees certainly wouldn’t go amiss – and Ross certainly intends to play his part in a promotion challenge during the upcoming campaign.
“Speaking with the gaffer and the chairman, I could see their ambition matches mine,” he added. “The aim of the club is to get promotion and I don’t see any reason why we can’t achieve it.
“All it takes is one good season to get yourself up. A close-knit group and a good spirit also helps and, if we have that, I think we can definitely be up there challenging.”
