Barnet’s Under-18s play Luton Town at The Hive this evening (kick-off 7pm) in the FA Youth Cup first round and coach Dean Selvey says his players are looking forward to the occasion.
The Under-18s have not played on the first-team pitch at The Hive since beating FC Claton 11-1 in 2014 as both of last season’s FA Cup draws were away from home.
It is an occasion which those involved tonight are unlikely to forget in a hurry and Selvey is fully aware of the significance of the tie.
"It’s hard to get them to think about anything else," he admitted in the build-up to the game. "It’s difficult when these games come around because they kind of forget about the league fixture in the middle.
"They are excited – it will be great. I’m sure they’ll invite their friends and family and people will come down.
"Last year we didn’t get to play here because we were drawn away at Boreham Wood and then Cheltenham Town.
"So for the boys who are now into their second year, this is their first opportunity to play at The Hive.
"I’m really excited for the boys to have the opportunity to play on the pitch and to see if the work we have been doing has been positive."
