Sam Togwell: “I’ve had good runs in the FA Cup”

Sam Togwell won’t be available for Barnet’s first round Emirates FA Cup tie at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday but the Bees midfielder has plenty of history in the competition.
The 32-year-old was part of the Barnsley side which enjoyed a memorable run to the 2007/08 semi-finals at Wembley, only losing to eventual runners-up Cardiff City.
Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool were defeated on that run with Togwell coming off the bench in the 1-0 win over the Blues at Oakwell in the last eight.
But the Beaconsfield-born enforcer is not the only member of Martin Allen’s squad with history in the competition and he believes that experience will be important.
"I’ve had quite good runs in the FA Cup," Togwell said on Thursday morning. "I got to the semi-final with Barnsley down at Wembley. That was a great experience and I was on the bench.
"We beat Chelsea and Liverpool, away, which were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, so personally I’ve had a good run.
"You’ve got Curtis Weston who is the youngest player to ever play in an FA Cup final, so we have got great experience within the group.
"Obviously Nelse has been there and done it with most things in his career. It’s always good for the young players to be able to lean on us if they need to and we can pass on help and guidance where we can."
