Team News: Barnet are still missing long-term absentees Michael Gash and James Pearson (both knee) while Gavin Hoyte is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Left-back Elliott Johnson returned in Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town. Sam Togwell (hernia) and Jamal Campbell-Ryce missed out though.

Meanwhile, striker Shaun Batt has been ruled out for the foreseeable future after suffering a hamstring injury in the dramatic win over Hartlepool United – the game in which he got Barnet’s winner. 

Last Time We Met: It has been eight years since Barnet took on Peterborough United in competitive action, though the Bees did host Posh in pre-season of the 2014/15 Conference-winning campaign.

The last competitive encounter went the way of Posh who ran out 2-0 winners at Underhill on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 with goals from Dean Keates and Jamie Day.

Barnet’s cause certainly wasn’t helped by the straight red card issued to winger Jason Puncheon in the 34th minute – less than 120 seconds after falling behind.

Manager: Former Posh midfielder Grant McCann, 36, succeeded Graham Westley as United boss in May 2016.

The Belfast native initially returned to the ABAX Stadium in February 2015 in a coaching capacity having left Linfield.

McCann’s affiliation with Posh stretches back six years after joining from Scunthorpe United in 2010. He made 185 appearances in all competitions, scoring 35 times from midfield.

In January 2015 McCann left Peterborough by mutual consent to return to Northern Ireland to join NIFL side Linfield. 

He was only with the club for less than a month when Darren Ferguson was sacked and he returned to the ABAX Stadium in a coahcing capacity.

Since succeeding Westley, McCann has taken Posh to eighth in EFL League One – a point shy of the play-off places.

Dangerman: Six goals in 15 League One starts mean former Gateshead winger Marcus Maddison is the man to watch from Posh.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Durham, joined Peterborough from the Heed in 2014 for a fee reported as being £250,000 rising to £500,000 – a club record sale for Gateshead.

Maddison has repaid that faith after he was taken from non-league football with an impressive record of 24 goals from just 69 league starts. 

Connections: Bees legend Giuliano Grazioli made his break into professional football with Posh in the mid-90s.

The striker would score 62 times in just 112 games to cement his status as a Barnet favourite, but also notched five against the Bees in a 9-1 rout at Underhill in September 1998 while playing for Posh.

Striker Shaun Batt is currently on the books at Barnet but previously plied his trade for Tuesday night’s visitors.

The pacey attacker made 61 appearances in all competitions after being snapped up from non-league Fisher Athletic in 2008.

In more recent times, striker Mathew Stevens swapped The Hive for the ABAX Stadium this summer. 

The 18-year-old, who helped Barnet’s Under-18s win the Football League Youth Alliance in 2015, scored once in 11 league outings as a Bee and has made one first-team appearance for Posh this season.

Striker Aaron McLean, who spent time with Barnet last season, made his name in the Football League with United after being plucked from non-league Grays Athletic.

McLean plays for National League South side Ebbsfleet United whom he joined from Barnet in January. 

The 33-year-old scored five in 13 league starts for the Bees following three stints with Peterborough which totalled 84 goals in 206 outings in all competitions.

At the other end of the field, centre-back Mark Arber clocked up 199 appearances in black and amber between 1998 and 2002 before moving to Peterborough on a free transfer. He spent two spells with Posh, appearing 192 times.

Last Time Out: A pair of goals from Shaq Coulthirst were enough to see off Chesham United of the Southern League Premier Division in the FA Cup first round.

The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster netted in the 40th minute and doubled up in the 70th to put the Posh in control.

However, ten minutes from time Ryan Blake set up a nervy finish by reducing the arrears.
