Barnet striker John Akinde has been recognised for his fine October form, earning a nomination for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award.
The 27-year-old hitman scored five goals in just seven outings, helping the Bees pick up seven points with wins over Wycombe Wanderers and Hartlepool United, as well as a hard-earned draw at Newport County.
Akinde made his 100th league start for Barnet in that period too, taking his league tally to 66 goals in black and amber in just over two years at The Hive.
The full list of nominees for the award are below. The winner will be announced at 6am on Friday.
John Akinde (Barnet) – striker
The shining light in a difficult period for his team, Akinde’s bulldozing presence up front and calmness in front of goal accounted for half of his side’s 10 goals in October, notably his brace which rescued a 2-2 at struggling Newport.
Â
Graham Carey (Plymouth Argyle) – midfielder
Three goals, including a lovely 20-yard strike against Yeovil, and five assists in the month for Argyle’s midfield playmaker. Plays with a freedom that allows him to slow the game down and control the game for the league leaders.
Â
Jason Kennedy (Carlisle United) – midfielder
In the goalscoring form of his life, he found the net five times in five October games, the highlight of which was an overhead kick against Morecambe. Always a box-to-box midfielder, he has improved the timing of his runs into the area.
Â
Will Norris (Cambridge United) – goalkeeper
The 23-year-old has made a name for himself as a penalty stopper this season. He saved three in October – two within 90 injury-time seconds to preserve a 2-1 win over Accrington and then another the following week in a 1-1 draw at Blackpool.
