Rossi Eames was understandably thrilled after watching Barnet thrash a strong Gillingham side 4-0 in a training ground friendly at The Hive on Tuesday afternoon.
Young professionals Wesley Fonguck (2) and Nana Kyei both found the back of the net for the Bees while Alex Nicholls tucked home a penalty against Justin Edinburgh’s side.
Reflecting on the win, Eames said: “Obviously I am delighted with the way we played. I sat in with the boys yesterday and made a presentation about the 3-5-2 system we played today.
“We looked at the focus on the back three and the midfield two. We looked at Chelsea and how successful they’d been. One thing we really spoke about was discipline; playing simple and not over-elaborating in the first and second third.
“I must say, the first half was absolutely fantastic and a joy to watch. Going into the second half, at half time, we spoke about game management and how to see out a game.
“If you’re 4-0 up and the opposition get one goal back the momentum can creep in their direction.
“We didn’t want that to happen because we knew they would come out of the traps quickly. That is a really good thing from a development side for the players: managing the game and doing what they require rather than what they require.”
