This Saturday will see The Hive host The Big Barnet Sleep-Out for the very first time, as Barnet FC and The Hive Community Trust join forces to increase awareness of the plight of homeless people and raise funds for the various charities that try to help them.
Taking place from 20:00 onwards, the event will feature a group of fundraisers grabbing their sleeping bags and spending the night in the East Stand as a show of solidarity.
It goes without saying that the Sleep-Out is not intended to try and replicate the sense of danger, hunger and despair that many homeless people face, but rather provides a chance for people to make a real difference to the lives of those who face such conditions every day.
Barnet FC and The Hive Community Trust are delighted to be working alongside Homeless Action in Barnet and Together in Barnet in bringing The Big Barnet Sleep-Out to The Hive for the very first time, and now we are asking YOU to help make the event as big a success as possible!
An award from Near Neighbours means that young people of all different faiths and cultures will already be taking part in this project and providing a Youth Zone for the evening consisting of a series of workshops as well as education and entertainment sessions.
And best of all The Sleep-Out will be about far more than simply sleeping, with plenty of entertainment to lift the spirits as well as warm drinks provided in the evening followed by breakfast in the morning before everybody goes home.
We are looking for people from all backgrounds and of all ages to join us in our cause, so to get involved either register now at www.habcentre.org/news/sleepout or e-mail janine@habcentre.org. Alternatively, you can sponsor either Steven Barron, Head of The Hive Community Trust, or Barnet fan Jeanette Cluff as they take to the terrace to take part in the challenge by e-mailing sbarron@thehivelondon.com or calling 07725483328.
We look forward to welcoming you to The Hive for what promises to be an evening to remember!
