Barnet produced some fantastic football and a result to match on a glorious day at The Hive last Saturday, as they kept hold of top spot in the division with a 3-0 win over Halifax.

As they have done so often this season the Bees made a blistering start, going ahead in just the second minute with a close-range finish from Mauro Vilhete. Mauro is of course a local boy who has done really well for the team during the last few games, so it was great to see him top off those performances by scoring as well. 

John Akinde then capitalised on a defensive mistake to make it 2-0 to the Bees shortly before half-time. It is not the first time that has happened this season and you have to say that Big John’s presence, work rate and anticipation seems to make many defences panic and force them into such errors. 

Another goal for his tally and it is great to see his hard work for the whole team and defending from the front by putting pressure on the defenders being rewarded. 

Almost as regular a goal scorer for Barnet at the moment is Curtis Weston, who rounded off the victory with Barnet’s third goal and his fifth in seven games.  What a crucial player he has been for us this season, and the goals that he has been scoring recently are no less than what his performances have merited.

Both Charlie MacDonald in the programme notes and Michael Gash after the game praised the contribution of the fans over the course of the season. 

Having such a sizeable away support for the Dartford game on Easter Monday in front of the BT Sport cameras when most public transport in the country was shut down for the Bank Holiday showed you exactly what the Bee Army is all about. 

It is obvious that the team really appreciate the fans’ support and hopefully there will be a lot of Barnet fans in the Midlands for the game against Kidderminster tomorrow.

Martin made a couple of changes to the team for the Halifax game and it is obvious that everyone believes in each other and has confidence in all members of the squad. As Michael Gash said, there is a great camaraderie in the team and also between the players, the manager and the fans. 

Everyone at the club is working together to achieve our goals for the season.  We have another tough game on Saturday, but you can be sure that the Bee Army and the Barnet players will be working together and doing their best to get another positive result. Come on you Bees!
