Vanarama are delighted to announce that the winner of the Vanarama Conference Player of the Month award for April is Mauro Vilhete of Barnet.

Reacting to the announcement of the award, Mauro said:

“Every time that I have come onto the pitch I have tried the best I can to help the team and all the hard work has paid off. It was a great feeling to score the goals in that final game.

“I have been working hard for it throughout the whole season and luckily enough I was in the right place at the right time, twice!

“The whole team deserves praise, not just one player. I think we’ve all worked extremely hard. We managed to win the league and I could not be more grateful – day by day I think it is sinking in bit by bit.”

Discussing their decision, the official awards panel said:

“In terms of goal scoring feats this season, Mauro would not be the first name on everyone’s lips. But he will certainly be remembered in the record books for it was his two goals on the final day of the season that will live long in the memory. 

“Having to secure a win his vital header gave his team mates a platform on which to build and just after half time he scored a second to ensure that Barnet beat Gateshead and pipped Bristol Rovers to automatic promotion back to the Football League.”
