Luton Town Crowned Champions

Luton Town are champions of the Skrill Premier – and finally achieved that without taking the field following second-placed Cambridge United`s 2-0 defeat at Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday night.
Last Saturdays hugely disappointing home defeat by Braintree Town left the Hatters’ fans a little deflated, but knew it was surely just a matter of time, and that came not on Saturday at Welling United, but last night when news of the U`s defeat filtered through.
Kidderminster rekindled their own outside chances of making the play-offs with the Aggborough victory that saw Amari`I Bell open his Harriers account by breaking the deadlock after 67 minutes when his effort from a narrow angle beat Will Norris after good work by Jack Byrne.
And victory was confirmed 10 minutes later with a fine effort from Michael Gash, whose terrific volley from 20 yards ended his former club and home-town team`s slim title chances and handed the championship to Luton.
Luton chairman Nick Owen said: “It is wonderful to be back in the Football League!
“It’s taken us five seasons, we’ve got close and lost some play-off finals and it is such a relief to get back there. We have got a good side and played some lovely football this season. We have some youngsters who will only get better.
“I nearly went to Kidderminster but decided there was something not quite right about going to a game hoping a team would lose. It’s a great moment for tens of thousands of fans in Luton and around the world.”
