The longest trip of the season ended with Barnet returning to The Hive with a crucial three points and another away win as the quick-starting Bees blew away the Heed in the first seven minutes.

It was really great once again to see the team starting with purpose and attacking intent – long may it continue. 

Captain Curtis Weston finished from close range before Luisma Villa proved he is becoming something of a heading expert – as well as a free kick specialist – by bagging his second headed goal of the season.  Weston was involved again too, providing the cross for Luisma to head home.

Unfortunately I wasn’t at the game but I was certainly celebrating at home when the news came through about our two quick goals!  Massive respect to all Bees who made the near 300-mile trip up north for this one – it was lovely to see your fantastic and loyal support rewarded handsomely. 

After a disappointing draw at home last weekend it was really important to get a good, positive result up on Tyneside.  Barnet duly saw the game out after coming under the inevitable second-half pressure, having largely controlled the first period. 

In this respect it was great to see that the team had learned from the Kidderminster game and could hold onto their lead this time round.  The manager has spoken of the draw against Kidderminster and how he may have done things differently with hindsight. 

He put his words into action against Gateshead by learning from it and getting the three points.  I think that deserves a fair amount of credit, so well done to all involved for building and getting the result next time round.  This is what all successful teams do and it was a great result against a team in the play-off positions, a long way away from home!

Braintree at home are next with another Tuesday night game against a team that we played less than three weeks ago, when we came away from Essex with a 1-1 draw in September.

It’s the only Vanarama Conference game of the evening, so the match represents a great chance to put more points on the board before our rivals play again in the league in November with the FA Cup becoming the focus for all Conference sides next Saturday. 

I am looking forward to heading to The Hive on Tuesday night to see it and hope that all the Barnet fans will get behind the team after a terrific away win at the weekend. Come on you Bees!
