The Bees travel to South Yorkshire today buoyed by their dramatic and much needed victory against Bradford City last weekend to face a Rotherham United side that sit comfortably in third spot in Npower League Two.

Rotherham manager Steve Evans has stated that some players could pay the price for their FA Cup exit at the hands of Aldershot Town when he selects his side to face the Bees. “I’m not prepared to say who will be affected but I think there will be changes,” he said.

This season the Bees have generally enjoyed some success against sides that are faring well, recent notable scalps being victories over Gillingham and Cup-heroes Bradford City. Head Coach Edgar Davids explained, “It is always great to play the top sides in the league especially when you are near the bottom because you have nothing to lose and so I am very excited.

“We have to keep the momentum going and keep playing the way we did last week, but we also have to recognise that Rotherham are a very good side.

“For them it is a game that they are expected to win, but if we come away with a positive result it will be very good.”

The Bees will make their first appearance at Rotherham’s New York Stadium with Davids expecting the crowd to play its part. “I do not think that we are in a position to be excited about the new stadium but it is always nice to play in front of a good atmosphere”, he said.

“I hope that the stadium will have this and that the fans will contribute to that. Hopefully we can use this to our advantage and it will be a great day for us.”

As for team selection the Dutchman adds, “We have a couple of minor injuries but I am hopeful that I will be able to take part in the game on Saturday.

“A lot of players within the team have also played a lot of games recently so sometimes you have to consider that and give them a rest.”

The ex-Juventus midfielder is in confident mood despite the quality of the opposition. “I have seen them play this season and they have some very good players, but so do we, so I am optimistic that we can take something from the game.” 

Ibra Sekajja is also expected to be involved after joining the club on a one-month loan deal from Crystal Palace with Davids hopeful that the 20-year-old can make an instant impact.

David knows the striker well from his time as a player for Palace and stated, “I hope he can bring some speed and excitement to the attack because that is what he can do and that’s what we should expect from him.”
