Anthony Acheampong is hoping to achieve big things during his time at The Hive after joining Barnet Football Club on a two-year-deal.

The defender helped Welling United win promotion to the Conference Premier and he is relishing a new challenge as he attempts to make it back to back promotions with the Bees.

Speaking exclusively to BarnetFC.com, Acheampong hailed the welcome he has received from everybody at the club.

“I am very pleased to be here, it is big club with massive ambition so I am very happy to have joined.

“I have trained for a couple of days now and I am getting on really well. The lads all seem great and they have been very welcoming so it has been easy to settle in.”

The 23-year-old began his career at Cardiff City before dropping into the non-league and he is looking forward to improving on a daily basis following a return to full-time football.

“It is obviously different going from part-time to full-time and it will take a little bit of time to adjust but I have really enjoyed myself so far.

“Joining Barnet gives me a great opportunity to play full-time football and an opportunity for me to keep improving which is what I want to do.”

He continued: “I still have a lot to learn and I am by no means the finished article so I am hoping to become a much better player during my time here.”

Acheampong’s former club Welling United clinched automatic promotion last season and he believe he can help bring a winning mentality to the club.

“I am a winner, I have just been promoted with Welling United and to be fair it doesn’t matter what level you play at once you’ve won something you keep that mentality.

“I am hoping I can bring that here and now I want to be promoted to the Football League with Barnet.”

With Edgar Davids, Graham Stack, David Stephens and more already at the club the Bees are not short of leaders and Acheampong will bring leadership and a much more.

“I am a leader and I am very vocal on the pitch. I am good in the air and I can score goals so I hope I can bring a lot to the team. 

“I want to keep up my form from last season and prove to people that it wasn’t just one good year, I want to prove that I am a good player on a consistent basis and that is what I will do this season.”

During last season the defender kept 17 clean sheets, scored seven goals and notched three assists from the back and he will work tirelessly to maintain the same performance levels at The Hive.

“Barnet fans can expect somebody who gives their all for the club and although I am first and foremost a defender they can expect some goals along the way.”

“They can also expect a genuinely nice guy, I am open with everyone and I am delighted to be here.”
