Barnet 1-2 Grimsby Town

Barnet were beaten 2-1 at The Hive by Grimsby Town in the FA Carlsberg Trophy.
Andy Cook opened the scoring early on but Keanu Marsh-Brown levelled midway through the second-half.
It didn’t stay level for long however as Dayle Southwell struck past Graham Stack to ensure the Mariners’ progression.
Barnet made five changes to the side who beat Dartford last weekend with Elliot Johnson, Anthony Acheampong, Mark Byrne, Kieron Cadogan and Jon Nurse all starting.
The Bees made a poor start to the match and with just six minutes played they were punished when Cook headed past Graham Stack after losing his marker.
The forward went close to a second three minutes later when he volleyed into the side netting from 20-yards.
The Bees edge their way back into the match but the Mariners were more than happy to succumb possession to their opponents who seemed bereft of any attacking intent.
With 26 minutes played Byrne shot wide from distance before Cadogan’s tame effort was easily dealt with by James McKeown.
Cook continued to cause Barnet problems in the box and he was again left unmarked with 31 minutes played but he headed straight at Stack.
With two minutes of the half remaining Barnet created their best chance when Luisma Villa’s curling free-kick evaded everyone and was tipped to safety by McKeown.
Grimsby made a good start to the second-half and they almost got a second moments after the restart when Craig Disley was unable to convert from close range.
That earlier warning shocked new life into the Bees who began to dominate as the half wore on.
Nurse was first to try his luck but his shot was blocked before Cadogan was denied by McKeown.
With 56 minutes played KMB sprang to life curling an effort from outside the box towards the far corner by McKeown was just able to tip it wide.
With under 30 minutes remaining Hyde returned to action and the forward immediately added an edge that was severely lacking prior to his introduction.
With 20 minutes remaining the Bees got a deserved equaliser when KMB burst down the left, held off his man and slotted the ball under McKeown.
The Bees continued to pile forward but with 85 minutes played Dayle Southwell broke through on goal and fired past Stack whose starting position gave him absolutely no chance.
Despite only minutes remaining the Bees wasted a glorious chance to force extra-time when McKeown tipped Hyde’s header into the path of Nurse who somehow shot over from two-yards.
The drama wasn’t done there and in the third minute of added time Edgar Davids’ side were inches away from an equaliser as Hyde’s shot cannoned off the inside of the post.
