Experienced Nurse Signs For The Bees
Barnet FC can today announce the signing 31-year-old Jon Nurse, the forward being best known for his time with Stevenage Borough and Dagenham & Redbridge.
Jon Nurse, who has also represented Barbados, said today: "I’d spoke to the gaffer a few weeks ago and it’s taken a little bit of time to sort out all the details but I’m over the moon now that I’ve finally put pen to paper.
"When I spoke to Mark Robson he sounds like a real football man. He sounds ambitious and comes from a good coaching background. Everyone that’s spoken to me about him has been impressed with him and the way he works, so I saw it as a massive incentive to come to Barnet.
"I had other options this summer, but having sat down and spoken to Mark I thought, "This is the best club for me". Today’s going to be my first day training and meeting all the boys so I’m excited.
Nurse brings much experience to the Barnet squad with over 300 appearances and says, "Over the years I’ve learnt how to survive in League 2, I’ve learnt to get promoted from League 2 and play in League 1, which is obviously a really good standard of football.
"You learn to be a better all-round professional, you learn how to conduct yourself better – eat the right things, do the right things, recover in the right way – from the experiences I have had I hope to pass that onto the younger players.
"My goal this year is to score as many goals as I can. Double-figures is the minimum for me. To keep being successful too. Over the years I’ve had success where I’ve been so I’m hoping to continue that with Barnet.
When asked what Barnet fans could expect to see from their new signing he replied: "Goals, hopefully, first-and-foremost! But I work hard…I love football; whether it’s watching it with my friends or watching it on TV or playing with my little boy, I love football. So hopefully the fans will see that on the pitch, they’ll see it in how I play and I can reward them with a few goals too…and a trip to Wembley, maybe!
