Developing the Individual
Winning matches is important, but Academy football is about much more than results.
Our programme focuses on the long-term development of the individual player.
Players are challenged across the key areas required for progression towards professional football:
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
Developing the individual skills required to perform effectively at senior level.
TACTICAL UNDERSTANDING
Helping players understand the game, different roles and responsibilities and the Club’s football philosophy.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Supporting players as they develop the physical capabilities required for senior football.
PHYSIOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
Developing confidence, resilience, decision-making and an understanding of the standards required within professional football.
Each player’s journey is individual, with development monitored and reviewed throughout their time within the Academy.
A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH
Modern player development involves far more than coaching sessions.
Our football programme is supported by different areas of the Club working together to create the best possible environment for player development.

We understand the reality of professional football.

Not every Academy player will ultimately become a professional footballer with Barnet FC.

Our responsibility therefore extends beyond developing players on the pitch.

Throughout their time with us, players are encouraged to develop skills and experiences that can help them progress into professional or semi-professional football, higher education, university scholarships and careers throughout the wider football and sports industry.
Our ambition is for every player to leave Barnet FC better prepared for whatever comes next.
