AARON LIWALA HAS SIGNED HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT WITH THE CLUB

Barnet FC is delighted to announce that Aaron Liwala has signed his first professional contract with the Club.

Aaron joined the Barnet FC Shadow Scholarship Programme at Canons High School in 2024, having been released by West Ham United at the age of 16.

Speaking on Aaron’s professional contract, Barnet Head of Academy Dan McKimm said:

“This is a huge milestone for the Academy since it’s re-birth at the start of last season. I’m delighted for Aaron, he’s a great lad and deserves this opportunity he’s earned, and we can’t wait to see his continued growth at the club.

“I’m also very proud of all the staff for the work they’ve done with Aaron in his first year as a Scholar with us, this is a special moment and brilliant achievement for them too.

“Aaron’s case is a fantastic example of the pathway and close connection between the academy and first team here at Barnet – having started with our Shadow Squad, then signing his Scholar, and now signing his pro – and the opportunity our young players have if they earn the right”.

Reflecting on Aaron’s development, James O’Dowd said:

“Aaron quickly adapted to the high standards demanded by Connor Smith and never looked back. He deservedly earned his scholarship at the end of that season, and I am incredibly proud to see how far he has developed.”

During his first year as a scholar, Aaron was a standout performer for the Under-19s throughout the 2024/25 season. He played an important role as the young Bees won both the National League title and the Champions of Champions Cup.

Throughout his performances on and off the pitch, Liwala earnt himself a full-time scholarship with the Barnet FC Academy, during the clubs promotion to the EFL.

After spending a year on the scholarship programme, his hard work, dedication and commitment to developing his skills working alongside the Academy coaches and teammates, saw him gain valuable experience both on and off the pitch. His progress and development ultimately helped him earn his first professional contract.

First-Team Manager Dean Brennan said:

“It’s great for Aaron and great for everyone at the Football Club that we continue to produce players.

“We held some trial matches a couple of years ago, and Connor came to me and said, ‘We’ve got a player here, Gaffer.’ That player was young Aaron.

“It shows what can happen when the first-team staff work closely with the Academy and provide a genuine pathway for young players. Connor deserves great credit for the work he has done with Aaron.

“Aaron now has the opportunity to step up to the first team after earning his first professional contract. This is a special moment for him, and we all wish him well. Hopefully, he can continue progressing and enjoy a bright future in the game.”

Aaron made his senior debut for the Bees against Arsenal in the EFL Trophy earlier this season, producing an impressive performance that earned high praise from Brennan.

After signing his first professional deal, Liwala said:

“I’m extremely excited and delighted to get the deal over the line.

“Making my first-team debut for the Bees felt surreal. Playing in the main stadium in front of the supporters was an amazing experience. I was a little nervous, but I wanted to take the opportunity to show the best of my ability.

“To be recognised by the Gaffer and the other members of the coaching staff felt brilliant. It was great to know that my name was being mentioned.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Barnet so far, and I feel the Club has helped me progress enormously.

“Connor Smith has helped me a lot. From my first day here, I felt the love and support from him, and he has played a massive part in my journey at Barnet.

“However, there is still much more to come.”

Congratulations, Aaron!

The deal remains subject to the usual FA and EFL clearances.
