Barnet Football Club were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of life-long Bees’ fan John Clayton earlier this month, at the age of 66.
Â
John was well known to many Barnet supporters, having been the commentary part of the Clayton & Clayton videos during the club’s exciting era under Barry Fry in the late 80s and early 90s. He and his brother Richard travelled the length and breadth of the country, capturing what would go on to be historic footage on their camcorder.
Â
John provided many soundbites of iconic Barnet commentary that can still be found on YouTube from a very special time in our history. A voice synonymous with some of the fondest of Barnet memories.Â
Â
John lived in Woodside Park in Barnet all his life, attending games at Underhill from childhood onwards. Over time, he watched games from all parts of the ground although for many years he could be found on the North West Terrace, come rain or shine, with his sons Craig and Matthew.
Â
John continued supporting the club at The Hive; it was only in the last couple of years when his health prevented him from continuing to do so.Â
Â
Everyone at the club offers its deepest condolences to John’s family, friends and loved ones and everyone that was lucky to know him, during this extremely difficult time.
