MATCH REPORT | MK DONS 1-3 BARNET FC

Goals from Danny Collinge, Kabongo Tshimanga and Idris Kanu saw the Bees bounce back to winning ways in a statement victory over MK Dons in Buckinghamshire.

Dean Brennan named an unchanged side after Tuesday night’s draw against Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium.

Two changes were made to the bench, with Joe Kizzi and Dialling Jaiyesimi joining the squad, replacing Rhys Browne and Britt Assombalonga.

The hosts had the first entry into the Bees’ box inside a few minutes of kick-off, but the delivery from out on the right was comfortably into the hands of Cieran Slicker.

MK Dons opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes. Slicker rose high to try and claim a looping ball, but he was unable to get hold of it and Jon Mellish finished into an empty net to give the hosts an early lead.

In a bid to respond quickly, Idris Kanu worked the ball into the area, before looking to find a teammate, but a well-timed challenge from a Dons’ shirt halted the attack.

As the half progressed, both sides created little in front of goal, with a Mark Shelton free-kick going straight into the hands of Craig MacGillivary as the game ticked past 20 minutes.

The hosts looked for a second, with Ben Wiles striking just inside the area, but Nik Tavares got a toe to the ball, which saw it into the hands of Slicker.

The Bees came agonisingly close to finding an equaliser on 39 minutes, when Slicker’s goal-kick was flicked into the path of Ryan Glover and he only had the keeper to beat, but the winger poked it straight into the gloves of the Dons’ number one.

Shelton sent in corner as the Bees continued to grow into the game, but Adam Senior’s unmarked header could only find the hands of MacGillivray.

Our number 19’s next set-piece from out on the left however, resulted in the Bees finding a deserved equaliser on then stroke of half-time, with former Don’s defender Danny Collinge getting on the end of it to head home his second of the campaign.

Half-time: MK Dons 1-1 Barnet FC

It was the perfect start for Barnet  after the break, taking the lead just three minutes after the restart. Glover found himself with the ball in plenty of space and laid it into Kabongo Tshimanga on the edge of the area, who curled a low ball into the bottom right corner.

Less than ten minutes later, Barnet struck their third of the afternoon, with Kanu guiding the ball into the back of the net from inside the area.

It was almost a fourth as Glover delivered a brilliant ball to the back post, but Collinge could only direct his header straight into the palms of the Dons’ shot-stopper.

The hosts were given the opportunity to close the gap as we approached the hour mark. Nnamdi Ofoborh was seen to foul Aaron Collins in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy stepped up in white, but Slicker stuck a leg out to deny the Dons’ number 29 from twelve yards out.

A heroic header off the line by Callum Stead minutes later denied Jack Sanders from close-range as Paul Warne’s sides desperately searched for a way back into the game.

Ben Wiles sent a shot towards goal, but it was straight at Slicker, with little powerful to distract the Bees’ keeper.

Barnet continued to dominate the danger areas as we entered the final ten minutes of the tie, continuing to create goalscoring opportunities.

Ofoborh played the ball into Glover who swivelled and sent an effort just wide.

Kanu almost silenced Stadium MK when a headed clearance from a corner fell to his feet outside the area, but his sweet strike was just wide of the top left corner.

Dean Brennan made his first change of the afternoon on 87 minutes, with Joe kizzi replacing Romoney Crichlow, before Oli Hawkins was introduced after nine minutes of added time was held up, taking the place of this afternoon’s second goalscorer Tshimanga.

Barnet continued to see the game out as full-time loomed ahead. A late triple switch saw Phillip Chinedu, Anthony Hartigan and Diallang Jaiyesimi replace Kanu, Glover and Stead to see the game out.
