WALKING FOOTBALL TEAM WELCOMES CHARITIES TO THE HIVE

As part of the Bees’ community outreach, Barnet’s walking football team welcomed a number of charities to the Hive.

In attendance, was Ciaran Byrne, Adult Services Project Coordinator from AgeUk, Harrow. We discussed working with them and introducing walking football to those who need a little extra help to get through the pressures of life.

We also welcomed Madhu Kapoor from MForMenopause. The charity offers a non-medical support service for individuals to make informed choices during menopause and acess the support they deserve.

Accounting for an individual’s unique circumstances, Madhu has joined our new women’s walking football team and hopes to introduce walking football to more women going through menopause.

After our walking football session, we headed back into the Hive Bar, and welcomed Vanessa Hammick, Senior Community Project Officer from Groundwork, who we met at a recent Barnet voluntary community sector forum.

Vanessa discussed with the team the importance of bowel cancer screening and using the screening test kit at home amongst the over 50s.

One of our players, Kevin Ziants gave a very moving talk to a packed Hive Bar about the experiences he is going through and raising the awareness of how important the self-test is.

“Not just a walking football team”
