Sykes Aiming For Big Impact

George Sykes admits he was gutted after having his 93rd minute goal chalked off but the forward states he will not dwell and he is raring to go.
The 19-year-old returned from a three-month loan last Friday before being thrown in at the deep end against league leaders Cambridge United.
Despite this he took his chance and had it not been for a smoke bomb he would more than likely be reflecting on his first Barnet goal.
“I haven’t seen it back but even if it has gone out I couldn’t see a thing so I don’t know how the linesman has made the decision from 50-yards away.
“I was delighted because I’d only been back one day, I got my chance and I scored the winning goal against the league leaders.”
Sykes added: “That’s obviously been taken away from me so its pretty disappointing.”
Last season’s League Two Apprentice of the Year returned to Barnet under 24 hours before kick-off and although he was surprised to be included he is desperate for more Skril Premier action.
“I was a little surprised because I’ve been away for three-months but to come in was great for me.
“No doubt the goal would of helped me get into the team next week but if I’m in the squad I’ll be happy and if I’m selected I will give my all.”
Sykes had previously spent the last three months on loan with Bishop’s Stortford and he thoroughly enjoyed his time at the ProKit UK Stadium.
“It was really enjoyable and it was a great experience for me. I chipped in with a few goals and although cup competitions meant I didn’t start all the time I enjoyed it.
“It was a bit difficult physically at first but after I got used to it I think I coped with it well. I’m happy to be back now and hopefully I can get a few more chances to play for Barnet.”
The youngster also believes he has returned to The Hive as a better player.
“I definitely think I’ve come back a better player and I’m a lot stronger physically. Hopefully it will stand me in good stead for Barnet.
“I was happy to play on Saturday but I’m not making any targets right now because that will all depend on how often I play.”
