Barnet Football Club are pleased to announce that Dick Schreuder has joined the club as Head of Coaching.

The 41-year-old will link up Edgar Davids’ side next week after leaving his role as head-coach of SDV Barneveld.

Schreuder joined SDVB during the 2007/08 season, during his tenure the club became renowned for their attacking style of play and focus on youth development; they were also promoted last season.

Since the arrival of Davids the Bees have adopted a similar brand of football and Schreuder will oversee all coaching throughout the club to ensure this mantra is adopted at all levels.

The former Barneveld man also enjoyed a well-travelled playing career with the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Gronigen and Stoke City.

Schreuder’s brother, Alfred, is currently the interim manager of Eredivisie side FC Twente after taking control following the departure of former England manager Steve McClaren

With Davids and Ulrich Landvreugd already at the helm, Schreuder‘s introduction completes a Dutch trio of coaching staff who will lead every team within the club towards a bright and exciting future.

Barnetfc.com spoke exclusively to Schreuder earlier on today and he revealed his excitement ahead of joining the club.

“I am very happy to join Barnet Football Club, it is a new challenge and I think it will be a very good move for me.

 

“I hope to settle in quickly and help the team, we will see how it goes. I don’t know everything about the league but I am very excited to join the project Edgar and Uli have started.”

 

He continued: “I spent six and a half years at SDVB and we only trained three times a week, it was amateur football. This will be very different for me and even though it was hard to leave SDVB when the opportunity came to join Barnet the choice was easy. There is no doubt it is a step up.

 

“I joined Stoke City in my playing career but suffered an injury after two months so I left after one-year despite a three-year contract. I now want to prove myself in England as trainer, coach and manager.”

 

SDVB President Wim Coenen also revealed he wanted to keep Schreuder at the club but wished him the best of luck with the Bees.

 

“We had hoped that Dick would stay at SDVB for at least another year but we understand he has the chance to go and work in England. We are grateful to him for all his efforts over the past years and we wish him all the best.”
