REMEMBERING JONATHAN COLLINS

Barnet Football Club were deeply saddened to hear the news earlier this week that well-loved Bees’ supporter Jonathan Collins had passed away on the 28th October, aged 41.

Jonathan lived close to Underhill and attended games with his dad, Terry, growing up. Despite moving away for university and spending some time travelling, he continued to be a regular attendee at Barnet. After moving to The Hive, Jonathan found a group who he started to enjoy the football with both home and away; these soon became some of his closest friends.

In 2020, Jonathan was sadly diagnosed with a brain tumour. Due to his illness, Jonathan moved to Norfolk, where his parents had retired some years earlier. His love for Barnet did not fade, however, and Terry made the drive to The Hive regularly so they could attend home games. Despite a long trip back, there was always time for a pint or two in the bar with his mates after the game! During the off season, his Barnet friends also visited him in Norfolk.

Jonathan celebrated his 39th and 40th birthday with some corporate action at The Hive, meeting John Motson the first time and being presented with a signed Barnet shirt by Rhys Browne the second time round!

Jonathan’s extensive Barnet knowledge always impressed everyone around him. Aside from his love of football, he was one of the kindest people with an unbeatable sense of humour.

The Barnet Football Club Supporters Association are encouraging all supporters to join them in a minute’s applause in the 41st minute of tomorrow’s game to remember Jonathan.

Everyone at Barnet Football Club and the BFCSA would like to send our love and condolences to Jonathan’s family: Terry, Penny and Amy, as well as all of his friends. He will be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace, Jonathan.
