Team News:

Elliott Johnson and Dave Tarpey still remain unavailable due to knee injuries along with Harry Taylor who is still sidelined with a broken metatarsal sustained at Chesterfield in December.

However, after appearing on the bench in Tuesday’s draw with Port Vale, Richard Brindley has recovered from a knee injury.

Last Time We Met:

The Bees travelled to Adam’s Park back in September in the last meeting between the two teams and it was the home side that came away with all three points after Wycombe recorded their third victory in seven days, winning 3-1.

Adebayo Akinfenwa broke the deadlock on 23 minutes before Josh Umerah bagged his first goal in the Football League 20 minutes into the second half.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men, who had more possession and created more chances, put the game to bed on 76 minutes courtesy of a tight-angled thunderbolt strike from Nick Freeman.

Barnet did give their travelling fans something to cheer about two minutes later when Mauro Vilhete volleyed home but it proved only to be a cancellation for the visitors.

Manager:

Earlier this year, Wycombe rejected an approach from an unknown Championship team for manager Gareth Ainsworth. That shows what a vital asset he is to the Chairboys.

The former Wycombe skipper hung up his boots in 2013 before keeping them in the Football League on the final day of the 2013-14 campaign. His second season in charge was a lot more positive after guiding them to the League Two play-off final.

The following campaign saw them finish in 13th before a ninth-placed end to last season.

Currently fourth in this season’s standings, Ainsworth will be aiming to guide the side he captained to League One promotion.

Despite retirement five years ago, the 44-year-old is still registered as a player and has featured in Wycombe’s EFL Trophy squad in the past couple of years.

Dangerman:

It’s safe to say that Adebayo Akinfenwa is one of, if not the, most well-known player in the EFL. Weighing at approximately 16 stone, the Wycombe forward is every defender’s worst nightmare and will definitely be the one to watch out for on Saturday.

After starting out through the Watford youth set-up, Akinfenwa began his playing career at Lithuanian outfit FK Atlantas. He then went on to make a name for himself at the likes of Northampton, Wimbledon, Torquay and now, Wycombe.

In Akinfenwa’s debut season at Adam’s Park, the forward bagged the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year award after finishing the campaign with 18 goals.

It seems he has continued that form this year; currently fourth top scorer in the league this season with 16 goals to his name. On top of this, the veteran is also leading the assist standings with 11 this campaign.

It’s clear to see Wycombe’s number 20 can cause some damage in the final third and the Barnet back-line will have to be on high alert if they are to keep him at bay at the weekend.

Connections:

Bees forward John Akinde joined Wycombe on a one-month loan from Bristol City in March 2009 before bagging a brace against Brentford on his debut. His loan deal was then extended until the end of the 2008-09 campaign. The striker rejoined the Chairboys on a one-month loan again in November of the same year before seeing it extended to another further two months.

Barnet manager Graham Westley also spent time at Wycombe in his playing days, signing from the Bees in 1987 but left when Chairboys manager Peter Suddaby departed the club. Westley played 24 times, scoring five goals in all competitions during his first and only season at Loakes Park.

Last Time Out:

The points were shared when Wycombe played host to Cambridge United in their last fixture on Saturday, the game-ending one-a-piece.

Akinfenwa put the Chairboys in front four minutes into first-half injury time after the front-man nodded home a free-kick taken by goalkeeper Scott Brown.

A failed clearance by Wycombe substitute Nathan McGinley proved costly when Paul Lewis capitalised to equalise in the 93rd minute.

The result meant Ainsworth’s men remain fourth, two points behind Notts County of who occupy the final automatic promotion place.
