MATCH PREVIEW | HARTLEPOOL UNITED

Tuesday night fixtures are back at the Hive this week as Dean Brennan’s Bees take on Hartlepool United in the Vanarama National League.

Barnet:

The Bees finished off the weekend top of the Vanarama National League table after a strong performance against Maidenhead United, winning 3-0 at The Hive.

Dean Brennan’s side started off the game flying, putting the pressure on the opposition from the opening minutes to throughout the half.

Barnet were creating chances down both wings, with Zak Brunt playing through both Ryan Glover and Idris Kanu, who drove and crossed the ball into the box towards the likes of Lee Ndlovu and Callum Stead but couldn’t quite get the ball over the line. In the 27th minute the ball was scrambled in the box with players from both sides fighting to take control.

Ryan Glover looked to have cleared the ball but was pushed out by Maidenhead, before rebounding to Callum Stead who slotted it back in.

The linesmen appeared to have waved that initially Ryan Glover chance went over the line, confirming the lead making it 1-0 to Barnet at the halfway mark. As the second half began, Barnet wasted no time kicking into action, with Mark Shelton taking a chance at goal and doubling the lead for the Bees in the 50th minute.

Maidenhead tried to break through the Barnet defence, but every chance was stopped by Nik Tavares and Myles Kenlock at the back, as well as Owen Evans in goal. With Barnet already having a good lead, Zak Brunt linked up with Idris Kanu once again in the 70th minute, this time Idris Kanu’s attempt on goal flew past Criag Ross between the sticks making it 3-0 to the Bees at full-time, after a dominating strong performance.

Hartlepool United:

Hartlepool United hosted Woking last weekend at Victoria Park, where both teams shared a point as the match ended 1-1 at full-time.

The pools were looking strong at the start of the game, nearly taking the lead as early as the second minute where David Ferguson’s corner was headed down by Luke Waterfall, which gave Luke Charman a chance to shoot but ended up falling wide of the net. Woking went down to 10 men in the 35th minute, as Chinwike Okoli was sent off for taking down Mani Dieseruvwe, trying to intercept the striker who was through on goal before timing the challenge late.

The match was goalless going into the break, and as the teams returned for the second half The Pools tried to take the advantage of having an extra player on field. However, in the 54th minute Woking were pushing on the attack, crossing in the ball by Harry Beautyman that was met by David Ferguson who uncontrollably put the ball into his sides net giving the visitors the lead.

Just over 10 mins after going down by one goal, The Pools had an opportunity with a free kick by Nicky Featherstone, delivering the ball into the attacking area which was connected by Luke Charman who plotted the ball into the back, bringing the team back level and sealing a point for The Pools.

Hartlepool United last five results:

Hartlepool United 1-1 Woking

Wealdstone 1-1 Hartlepool United

Hartlepool United 2-1 Oldham Athletic

From the opposite dugout:

Hartlepool manager Lennie Lawrence will be taking the spot in the away dugout for the visitors with Anthony Limbrick as his head coach.

Lawrence was recently appointed as the clubs first team manager following leading the club under a caretaker role after the club parted ways with Darren Sarll.

Ones to watch:

Hartlepool centre forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe is the clubs leading goal scorer in the league so far this season with 10 goals and 1 assist in 25 appearances, he has also currently averaged a goal every 210 minutes.

Last time these two sides met:

The two sides last met at Victoria Park on the 30th of November 2024, with the game ending 0-0 in the Vanarama National League.

Barnet were controlling the game well throughout the first half, Ryan Glover attempted to give the Bees the lead in the 20th minute, going for goal from range but the shot flew just over the bar. Danny Collinge also had the chance late in the half as his shot from outside the box went just wide off the post in the 32nd minute, leaving the score level at the break.

Barnet thought they had taken the lead in the second half when a Anthony Hartigan corner was headed on by Adebola Oluwo and into the Hartlepool net, but the referee blew for an alleged foul during the build up to the cross and the scores ended up remaining level at full-time.

Dean Brennan will be looking for his side to take the three points for the first time at home in 2025, as well as continuing their unbeaten run in the league, and sealing the spot at the top of the table.
