BARNET FOOTBALL CLUB

Match Preview | Bromley A

Barnet FC will look to increase their win streak to 3 as the Bees will travel down to south London to take on Bromley FC.

After a nail-biting 2-1 win over Maidenhead United on Saturday, the Bees sit 4 points behind Bromley and will be looking to close that gap.

Bromley FC will be hoping to get back on track after Chesterfield ended their 5-game unbeaten run in the NationalLleague. The match was a 5-goal thriller that went all the way to the end.

The Bromley team will be without star centre-back Omar Sowumi after he was sent off during the defeat. He has started for the club 12 times and scored 4 goals, making him the club’s second leading goal scorer.

Nickname: The ravens and the Lillywhites

Founded: 1892

Stadium: Hayes lane (5,000 capacity)

Top scorer: Adam Marriott (6 goals)

Form: LDWDW

Recent result: Chesterfield 3-2 Bromley

One to watch: Adam Marriott

Bromley’s Adam Marriott will be a familiar face after playing 36 games and netting 17 goals last season for Barnet. In the summer transfer window, the 31-year-old joined Bromley and has adjusted well to the club. In 7 appearances for The Ravens, Marriott has scored 6 goals and scored a double in the defeat to Chesterfield.

It was playing for Cambridge United in the FA Cup that Marriott made his senior debate debut. During his early career, the Bromley striker played mainly for Cambridge City or United.

In the dugout: Andy Woodman

Originally from Camberwell, Andy Woodman joined Crystal Palace’s youth academy before joining their senior team. As a Crystal Palace player, he never played a single game, and his first competitive game was with Exeter against Lincon. In 2005, Woodman played his final game as a player for Rushden and Diamonds, losing 2-1 to Barnet.

Since being appointed manager of Bromley in March last year, Andy Woodman has managed the team 72 times, averaging 1.65 points per game. Woodman began his managerial career at Rushden and Diamonds in 2006 as an assistant manager. Woodman’s past experience as a goalkeeper led him to become a goalkeeper coach at clubs such as West Ham, Charlton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Arsenal under 23s. During his time at West Ham, Woodman met Alan Pardew, who hired him three more times.

He passed on his love of the sport to his son Freddie Woodman, who was a member of the England under 20 world cup winning squad in 2017. Freddie Woodman would also receive the golden glove award, which is given to goalkeepers who have kept the most clean sheets. Andy Woodman received a British Sports Book Award in 2004 for a book he co-authored with Gareth Southgate. In this book, they describe their friendship, which grew out of their childhood together at Crystal Palace
