Match Pack: Barnet FC 0-0 Wealdstone

The Bees started brightly once again but the first clear opening of the match fell the way of the visitors, as Dean Parrett forced Scott Loach into a brilliant stop, as he tipped away the Stones mans effort from six yards out.

Up the other end, Inih Effiong almost opened the scoring as he headed an effort just over the crossbar from Anthony Wordsworth’s corner. Just before that Ben Nugent headed another corner to the back post but the Stones just managed to scramble behind.

It was Effiong who caused problems again moments later after he saw an effort blocked behind for a corner after being found by Alex McQueen. The resulting corner found Nugent who headed over from eight yards out after managing to lose his man.

Loach was called into action again, as a break down the right fell to the back post for a Stones attacker, but Loach was off his line quickly to narrow the angle and make a stop at his near post.

There was controversy on the stroke of half-time as McQueen looked to have slammed home into an empty net after an almighty scramble in the six-yard box, the Stones ‘keeper went down with a suspected head injury which the referee initially waved away. But as the ball hit the back of the net, the ref pointed for a free-kick.

The teams went into the break level and at the start of the second half, Muhammadu Faal had the best chance of the opening of the early exchanges as he saw an effort deflected behind.

The Bees best chance of the match fell the way of Effiong as his diving header from six yards out, went over the crossbar after he had peeled away to find the space to meet McQueen’s inch-perfect cross.

Up the other end, Loach had to make a vital stop to tip Jordan Slew’s effort around the post, following his 20-yard strike destined for the bottom corner.

Both sides showed plenty of endeavour in the final stages but neither could find that all-important opener, leaving both sides having to settle for a share of the spoils.

It was a shame for the Bees fans, who got right behind their side all afternoon. It was just great to have fans back in the stadium again, Beadle’s side showed promise but the just need to break their duck in front of goal.
