Martin Allen believes that Barnet could have won today’s match at Bootham Crescent, following a strong showing in the second half. 

However the Bees manager has also acknowledged that it was a good point on the road, against a side that are fighting for survival. 

Speaking after the match, Martin said:

“It was always going to be a difficult game, after the trip ‘abroad’ on Tuesday!

“We came up here on Friday morning, after the players put in a fantastic performance in Wales. 

“So I thought we looked a bit lacklustre in the first half, and not quite up to the speed that we’ve been at. 

“Then I thought that we played much better in the second half. 

“I thought that we had more opportunities and perhaps could have won the game. 

“York are fighting for their lives and they’ve had some new signings come in over the last couple of days. 

“After what probably wasn’t a good weekend for them last Saturday against Dagenham, they were always going to come out with that extra bit of fight and spirit in front of their own crowd. 

“They knew what an important game for their club it was today, and fair play to them – they had a real go, but we weathered the storm and could perhaps have won it in the second half. 

“Three games in a week isn’t easy, and that’s seven games in 22 days now for our squad.

“I rotated it against Hartlepool and quite clearly that didn’t work; that was an error of my judgement. 

“But these players are relentless – they play high energy, high tempo, and it takes it out of them. 

“At the moment we haven’t got senior players that we can just bring into the team and fill the gaps. 

“In my mind, every point that the team picks up is a good point – in every game, whoever we’re playing against. 

“Everyone must have known that today was going to be a tough game, especially after the run that we’ve been on. 

“The result the other day, and the results against Portsmouth, Plymouth and Accrington show that this team have moved forward. 

“The players are disappointed just to draw today, and perhaps there’s a tinge of disappointment that we didn’t quite play to the level that we have in the other games. 

“York fought like tigers, they played like it was their last game.

“But we shows a lot of character, and I’m always pleased with a point.

“There are positives to take from every game. 

“We put all our attacking players on to win the game, we didn’t just put players on to see the game out. 

“I wanted to try and win it. 

“The gaps opened up towards the end, but we weren’t able to be clinical enough to turn one of our good passing movements into a goal. 

“Togwell was unlucky when he went through, and Akinde had a goal disallowed. 

“Alie Sesay was outstanding at centre-back and put in a magnificent performance. 

“So there are always positives, and I’m really pleased for him. 

“We’re all fighting hard, and that point today was for our special supporter Chris, who we will sadly miss.

“That point was for him.”
