Jack Taylor: “We try to be the best we can be in every single thing we do in training”

The 21-year-old wrote his name on the score-sheet twice in the Bees’ opening pre-season friendly at the Broadwater Stadium. The first came on six minutes, poking an effort into back of the net after skipping past two Berkhamsted defenders. He clinched a second just past the half-hour mark after unleashing a wonderful strike from 25 yards out to make it 3-0.

It was a positive night all-round for the Bees and after the game, Taylor dished out praise to boss Darren Currie.

“He drives us forward everyday, every session. We try to be the best we can be in every single thing we do in training whether it’s coming in on time or doing possession drills where you don’t want to give the ball away.”

The Barnet midfielder undoubtedly stole the show last night after bagging a stunning goal on 34 minutes and he talked us through the strike.

“I don’t think it was meant to be passed to me but I picked it up and then Shaq shouted ‘turn’ so I turned and I ended up shooting and it ended up going into the top corner.”

Taylor has had a busy summer having represented Republic of Ireland in the Toulon tournament and he feels the experience he gained from it has helped drastically.

“It improves my ball attention because that’s more important in tournaments like that. If you give the ball away to better players then they’re going to punish you more often but it’s really good for my experience.

“Obviously I had a great summer, I loved every minute of it. I had a great time in France playing in the Toulon tournament but I’m back here, that’s where my work is.”

Taylor also looked ahead to Saturday’s friendly against League One side Wycombe Wanderers and hopes to gain more minutes under his belt.

“I feel fit especially getting the 45 out of the way today, that was the main bit for me. Just getting past that first 45 and now I think I can get more minutes on Saturday, hopefully.”
