IRO’S EYE FOR GOAL

BarnetFC.com caught up with towering on-loan centre-back Andy Iro for a quick chat about his 98th minute equaliser at Exeter City on Saturday. The goal salvaged a vital point for the Bees and continued the great run over the festive period.
So Andy, how did it feel to score such an important goal and so late on too?
"To be honest it was a relief more than anything because I wasn’t too happy with my performance overall so I kind of wanted to make up for some things and do what I could to keep the team on this good run we’ve been on."
You went up front late on in the game which obviously paid off. Is that something you’ve had experience of before?
"Well growing up I played up front, but it is often the case when a team is a goal down to go direct and put a big guy up top; There was a choice between me and Dave (Stephens) and I decided to go up top."
So talk us through the goal…
“I initially won the first header and Hydey got a good flick on. There was a bit of fortune for the ball to come down to me six yards out and I just out-muscled the defender and put it in the corner. I haven’t even seen replay yet! Just that striker prowess I guess!” (Laughs)
“No no my job was to put it into an area to score – I didn’t’ think I’d be the one on the end of it but I’m happy I was. The team could have caved in first half but we really showed great character and in the end I think we deserved the point just for how we fought back and adapted our game. It’s been hard playing all these games over Christmas but I think we’ve done well."
What are your thoughts ahead of the match tomorrow?
"To be honest I don’t know too much about Aldershot – we watched video on them today. Their on loan striker is my Stevenage team mate Danny Lopez so I’m looking forward to playing against him – it’s an interesting one. Obviously Aldershot are down there with us so the result is really important and to continue our form plus it’s at home. A win would be a great way to end the festive period."
