Barnet left-back Elliott Johnson believes that the Bees’ hard work in training is paying off, after an energetic display against Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.
Looking back on the match, Elliott said:
“I think we wanted to put in a performance worthy of how hard we’ve been working in training.
“Coming off the back of Saturday’s win, it was good to get another victory – especially at home.
“I think everyone is looking sharp, everyone is looking good and we’re all working hard in training.
“You could see against Ipswich that our energy levels were really high – now we’ve just got to keep improving until the start of the season.
“It was tough when they brought on a whole new team for the second half.
“We had a lot of the same players on the pitch, so we changed our tactics and defended like we did so many times last season.
“We managed the game as a team, so I’m very happy.
“It’s great to beat a Championship team, but it’s still a pre-season match so we can’t get ahead of ourselves.
“Now we’ve got to go to Staines on Saturday and put in a strong performance.
“The last two weeks have been really tough on the training pitch.
“Every day is a little bit tougher but everyone is getting fitter each day too, so we’re getting stronger as a unit.
“It’s hard work, but you’ve got to be ready for all the Saturdays and Tuesday nights until the end of the season.
“We’re all enjoying it and everyone is getting on really well.
“A few of the youngsters came in against Crawley Town at the end of last season and did a good job.
“They look strong and fit since they’ve come back after the summer.
“You can see in training that they all look really good and I think that’ll help us throughout the season.
“We’ve got to take it as it comes this year – win the first game of the campaign against Cambridge and just take it from there.
“You can’t really start thinking about what you’re going to be doing at the end of the season yet, because it hasn’t even begun.
“But we’re all positive at the moment.”
