Barnet’s Dwight Pascal made a piece of history in Tuesday’s EFL Checkatrade Trophy clash against Peterborough United, becoming the Bees’ youngest ever player.

At 15 years and 250 days Pascal, who had been at school in the build-up to the match, played the full 90 minutes at right-back and caught the eye with an assured performance.

In playing for the Bees against Posh, Pascal became the youngest player in Barnet’s history, taking Matt Stevens’ record which was set against Alfreton Town in September 2014.

Stevens was 16 years and 204 days old when he replaced Sam Togwell in that Vanarama Conference clash. Pascal, however, trumps that record by just shy of a year.

Speaking earlier today, Academy manager Henry Newman said: “For Dwight Pascal at 15 to put in the performance he did and show that level of maturity in and out of possession was impressive. 

"He looked like a player who had played double figures in first-team games already and could have passed for being the backup first-team right-back. 

"We spoke to Dwight after our game on Saturday and told him that he would be involved with the first-team on Monday with the potential of being involved in the squad for Tuesday.

"We told him to keep his head down and treat it as another training session," he continued. "And that he would be training amongst players who might physically stronger and quicker than him, but that he was there for a reason and there was no reason he couldn’t cope in that environment – which he more than did.

"After the game he received instructions from the manager about focusing solely on his football and focusing everything on developing as quickly as he can.

"Tuesday night can’t be a one-off, it has to be something which is regular for him and that’s what the message was from the manager."

Speaking after the game, Martin Allen said: "He did well, he has been at school all day – unless he bunked off!

"I didn’t think he was going to make 90 minutes. A neutral would never have known he was 15.

“He played very well last week against Luton in the FA Youth Cup. I had a chat with Henry who gave him a glowing reference.

"And, of course, we have also seen Joe Payne and Ephron Mason-Clark from last week’s Youth Team who played very well."
