The hosts took the lead through Dan Sparkes on 53 minutes but were denied the win right at the death courtesy of a Wycombe trialist.
New signing Scott Loach started on his home debut and after the game, the Bees boss confirmed the next position he wants to bolster this summer:
“I need a centre-forward, it’s been spoke about since the very first day I took over”, he said. “I think it’s been obvious for the past six months.”
“We need a centre-forward, we need one that offers us different something different to what we have.
“Josh Walker is coming back and he’s in training but he’s going to be a long way off any type of level that he’s capable of but he’ll be a plus.
“They’re all of a particular type. I’m looking for a different type. I can say this for sure, I’ve been in for everyone, trust me.
“I know what I need and I’ve been after him for six months. I’ve been after him through the off-season and I’ve been after him through pre-season so I know what I need, it’s glaringly obvious.
“I haven’t got my head in the sand, I know what I need. It’s just difficult at the minute to get one through the door.”
One player who undoubtedly impressed in yesterday’s draw was youngster Antonis Vasiliou who grabbed the assist for the goal and Currie was full of praise for the academy graduate:
“He’s working very hard, taking information on board and he’s trying his absolute socks off everyday.
“He’s a great kid, another one off the production line at the club so a real plus there.”
Overall, the Bees boss was happy with his team’s performance but also highlighted that there is still room for improvement:
“It was a good work-out. I got enough of what I wanted to see out of it. It’s all about fitness, I’ve got no injuries in there which is key, it’s important and some good passages of play and some positive play but some obvious areas where we need to be better.
“I am on repeat but we’re working on it, we’re trying to improve in that area but in terms of fitness and the work-out side of it, it was a plus today.
“We moved the ball around with confidence. We were a little bit sloppy at times, the pitch was a bit dry and the grass was purposely left a tiny bit longer because of the week we’ve got in front of us.
“I don’t wish to use that as an excuse, but it contributed. We moved the ball around confidently at times and created opportunities.
“We could have easily got one or two more goals, so we’re disappointed with that.
“What we’re trying to do is get the boys a fitness level as a group of players that they didn’t reach last season and that will be a small step in the right direction but there’s a glaring obvious there for everyone to see that would help us improve straight away.”
